Why Go Greek? - For Parents
Sigma Tau Gamma is a fraternity of college men brought together by a set of ideals, which are visible at the top of this page. "Fraternity." What is a Fraternity, and more specifically, what is Sigma Tau Gamma? A Fraternity, according to Dictionary.com, is:
- A body of people associated for a common purpose or interest, such as a guild.
- A group of people joined by similar backgrounds, occupations, interests, or tastes: the fraternity of bird watchers.
- A chiefly social organization of men students at a college or university, usually designated by Greek letters.
Notice that the words "college" and "Greek" aren't mentioned until the third definition. The first definition of a Fraternity is paramount: a group of men who come together because of some kind of common purpose or interest. This is an excellent example of what Sigma Tau Gamma is to its brothers.

This is a normal feeling shared by everyone. Your college experience is a new episode in your life, one that brings with it a lot of questions, doubts, and concenrs. A Fraternity, Sigma Tau Gamma in particular, can help to ease this transition. It allows a new and confused student to find a group of friends that are nice, down to earth, and quick to help if needed. If you decide you like the Fraternity, and especially the people in it, you can join. But even if you decide otherwise, it is vital to rush and try it out. If the experience is not for you, at least you will know thirty more people that will say hello to you when they see you between classes and to talk to you when you have questions.
Basically, try it out! Rush, hang out with the people, and see. The great thing about rushing Sigma Tau Gamma is that there is no kind of obligation at all. If you enjoy the atmosphere, the people, and find that you have a lot in common with the brothers, or you just enjoy the diverse and varied people, give us a shot. You can always try it and see how you like it. If Sigma Tau Gamma is not for you, you can try a different Fraternty. Or, you can decide in the end that Fraternity life is not for you. Ultimately, the most important thing is to try it out. You have nothing to lose and a possible lifetime of friendships to gain.
